Option 1: Delete Your Account from Within the App
The fastest way to delete your Sunup account is directly from the app. Follow these steps:
- Open the Sunup app and sign in to your account.
- Tap your profile avatar in the top-right of the Dashboard to open the Profile screen.
- Tap Manage Account on your profile card to open the Account Settings screen.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm the deletion in the dialog. Your account will be removed immediately and you will be signed out.
Option 2: Request Deletion by Email
If you cannot access the app, you can request account deletion by sending an email to with the following information:
- The subject line "Delete my Sunup account"
- The email address associated with your Sunup account (or, for guest accounts, the display name and approximate join date of an event you participated in)
We will process your request within 30 days, as required by Art. 12(3) GDPR, and confirm the deletion by email.
Option 3: Delete Specific Data Without Deleting Your Account
You can also request deletion of specific personal data without closing your account. Examples include removing individual photos you uploaded, leaving an event, or asking us to delete diagnostic and usage data linked to your account.
- Remove a photo: Open the event gallery in the app, tap the photo you want to remove, and select the delete icon. The photo is removed from Cloudflare R2 within minutes.
- Leave an event: Open the event in the app, tap the menu, and select Leave Event. Your participant record for that event is removed.
- Request targeted deletion by email: Send an email to with the subject "Delete specific Sunup data", describing which data you would like deleted and the email address associated with your account. We will respond within 30 days.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, the following personal data is permanently removed within 30 days:
- Account profile: email address, display name, authentication provider identifier, avatar image, and account creation date
- Authentication state: all active session tokens, refresh tokens, and OAuth links to Google or Apple
- Events you host: events you created as host are deleted along with all photos and participant records belonging to those events
- Your uploads: all photos and media you uploaded from your account are deleted from Cloudflare R2
- Participation records: entries linking your user identifier to events you joined
- Device and usage logs: diagnostic and usage data associated with your account
What May Be Retained
Some data may be retained for limited periods after account deletion:
- Photos shared into events you did not host: Photos you uploaded into events hosted by other users remain accessible to the event host and participants until the host deletes the event. Your account is no longer linked to those photos after deletion. If you want a specific photo removed before then, ask the event host or contact us at .
- Server log files: Anonymized server logs (IP address, request timestamp, user agent) are retained for up to 14 days for security and abuse prevention before automatic deletion.
- Anonymized usage statistics: Aggregated usage data that no longer identifies you may be retained for up to 12 months for service improvement.
- Legal records: Records we are required to keep under German tax, commercial, or other applicable law are retained for the statutory minimum period (typically 6 to 10 years for tax-relevant documents) and are then deleted. This concerns only the records themselves, not your active account.
Guest Accounts
If you joined an event as a guest without registering, your guest identifier and display name are tied to that event. Guest data is automatically deleted when the event host deletes the event. To request earlier deletion, contact with the event code and your display name.
Your Rights Under GDPR
In addition to the right to erasure described above, you have several other rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right of access, rectification, restriction, data portability, and objection. A full description is available in our Privacy Policy.
